A Siler City man was arrested Friday when deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located at 3874 US 15-501 north of Pittsboro after a report that someone was shooting in the area. When officers arrived they found Pascual Mendoza and Erica Hilario near a white Chevy Lumina that was owned by Hilario.

Officers inquired if anyone was firing shots and both said no. They asked if they could search Hilario’s vehicle and after consent was given, a Firestorm 45 caliber pistol was found under the seat. A record check on the gun revealed that it was stolen from Lee County in 2002.

Mendoza, 19, of 380 11th Street, Siler City was arrested for Felonious Possession of Stolen Property and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He was released on a $500.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in district court in Pittsboro on March 30.
