Pittsboro, NC - A Pittsboro man living near an elementary school was arrested last week for failing to change his address as a sex offender.

Shad Victor Light, 32, of 75 LC Farm Road, is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on felony charges Aug. 17.

Light was arrested by Chatham County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Maynor after a warrant was issued for failing to update his address and living within 1,000 feet of Pittsboro Elementary School. Under law, defendants convicted of sex offenses are required to register with the sheriff of the county in which they reside and report any changes of address. They also are forbidden to live within 1,000 feet of a school or day care. Failing to comply with the guidelines is a felony and is punishable by up to four years in prison.

Light was arrested after a complaint was received and investigated by the Sheriff's Office that showed he was not residing at LC Farm Road but with his mother off SR 902 in Pittsboro. He was jailed under a $7,500 secured bond.
