North Chatham woman charged with sex crime against 2-year-old

Chatham County, NC - An investigation into an alleged sexual assault was brought to a close on Wednesday, when Detective Mike Szpunar arrested Rebecca Stutts, 31, of 2267 Mann’s Chapel Road, Chapel Hill.

Stutts is accused of committing a sex offense against a 2 ½ year old child. The incident is alleged to have occurred last week. Detective Szpunar was the investigating officer and worked closely with the Department of Social Services.

Stutts was arrested without incident and charged with Felonious Second Degree Sex Offense, and Misdemeanor Child Abuse.

She was also charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Driving While License Revoked in an unrelated case. She was jailed under $50,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on August 2.
