Sanford man faces drug

Pittsboro, NC - A Sanford man faces drug charges after a Good Samaritan called to report the suspect was in need of help.

Lee Aaron Matthews, 28, of 1603 Cotton Road, Sanford, is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Sept. 14 on the felony counts.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office was conducting surveillance operations in the Jordan Lake area when they received a call from a concerned citizen that a man was in some medical distress at the Jordan Dam Mini Mart. He was slumped over at the wheel and was unresponsive. Deputy Herbie Stubbs was in the area, responded and located Matthews in an impaired condition at the wheel of a red passenger vehicle. Stubbs noticed several small bags containing drugs around the driver and secured him and the scene for responding narcotics investigators.

Deputies recovered 22 doses of Hydrocodone, and 39 doses of Tylenol with Codeine in Matthews' possession, and he was immediately arrested. Local EMS responded and checked on the condition of Matthews, who was later transported to the Chatham County Detention Center in Pittsboro.

Matthews was charged with felonious possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule III Drugs, felonious trafficking opium, possession of Schedule III drugs. He was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond.
