Lillington - Harnett sheriff's deputies followed the trail of a murder that happened in eastern Harnett County all the way up to the Moncure area of Chatham County.

Larry David Wilson Jr., 41, of Fuquay-Varina, was charged Tuesday with murder after the shooting death of his girlfriend, Miriam McLeoud, 45, also of Fuquay-Varina. Deputies had to go to Moncure to make the arrest, with the help of Chatham County sheriff's deputies.

Detectives received information shortly after the Monday shooting death, which happened at the couple's Fuquay-Varina home, that Wilson might be in Moncure with a cousin. They believed Wilson would be driving a mini-van.

Detectives from Harnett County met with Chatham detectives near the Jordan Dam Mini Mart off U.S. 1 in Moncure Tuesday evening. Shortly thereafter, a minivan pulled into the parking lot and a man fitting Wilson's description went into the store. The driver, however, turned out to be a relative of Wilson. Harnett detectives interviewed him and determined that Wilson had borrowed the van from his cousin around the time of the shooting.

While Harnett detectives interviewed the cousin, Chatham detectives went to the cousin's residence and located Wilson. He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Harnett County officers who charged him with murder.

Wilson is in the Harnett County Jail without bond.
