Pittsboro, NC - After a two month criminal investigation conducted by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Angela Jones, 40, of 102 Briar Patch Lane, Chapel Hill in Northern Chatham County was arrested in late April for criminal activity that occurred after she was appointed treasurer of the Chatham Homeowners Association.

The investigation was prompted by notification from the members of the association and it was claimed that Jones embezzled several thousand dollars from a checking account she was responsible for. Apparently the association was dormant for a few years and when residents began to activate the association once again, that is when the discrepancies were discovered. Detective Chris Perry investigated the case and determined there was probable cause to believe that Jones in fact did embezzle approximately $18,000 in money belonging to the association.

She was charged with Felonious Embezzlement and released under a written promise to appear in court. She is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on June 6.
