Pittsboro, NC - A New York man has been arrested for felonious indecent liberties with a minor after he was accused of having sexual contact with an 11-year-old minor female at a Chapel Hill address in northern Chatham County, authorities say.

Chatham County Sheriff's investigators Joseph Santiago and Sandra Ross began working the case on July 29 when they received information from a family member of the minor that she had been sexually assaulted by Larry Valentine, 48, of Sydney, N.Y., who is a relative of the minor. The minor and the suspect were visiting from New York when the crime occurred and the case has been referred to the Department of Social Services in New York.

Valentine was later arrested and jailed under a $50,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Sept. 14.
