New Jersey fugitive arrested during Chatham vehicle stop

Pittsboro, NC - A Chapel Hill man was charged with drug offenses and his friend faces fugitive and other charges after their vehicle was stopped by Cpl. Phillip Richard of the Chatham County Sheriff''s Office Criminal Enforcement Team.

Richard was in the vicinity of Moore Mountain Road and US 15-501 north of Pittsboro when he observed a white box truck weaving in the road last week. He stopped the vehicle, driven by Danny Remson, 38, of 5524 Little Bean Store Road, Seagroves and Sheriff's canine "Meko" alerted on the vehicle for drugs.

The passenger, Lance Brandon, 30, of 700 Bolinwood Apartments #30F, Chapel Hill, was found to be in possession of 1.5 grams of marijuana. Deputies discovered that Remson was wanted by the State of New Jersey for assault on a law enforcement officer. He was charged with driving while impaired after having a .06 blood-alcohol reading on the Intoxometer and arrested on a fugitive warrant for the New Jersey charges.

Brandon was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Sept. 9. Remson has no bond awaiting extradition from New Jersey.
