Pittsboro, NC - A former basketball player at NC State was arrested Monday after he turned himself in to Chatham County Deputies.

On August 4, Shaunes Deberry of Durant Apartments, Chapel Hill, reported that her boyfriend, Marcus Melvin, 24, of 3101 Long Meadow Ct., Raleigh strangled her in an altercation they had on the morning of August 1.
She stated that he got extremely upset when they were discussing a telephone bill that had come in and threatened to kill her.
Corporal Kevin Carey arrested Melvin without incident and charged him with Felonious Assault by Strangulation and Communicating Threats. He was jailed under a $12,500.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on August 9.
Melvin averaged nearly 11 points and six rebounds with the Wolfpack from 2000 to 2004. He was a second-team all-ACC selection in his senior year.
