[Dec. 2, 2005] Siler City police arrested a man Tuesday they say stabbed and killed another during an altercation on a local footpath over the weekend. Harold Kenneth Alston, 53, of 506 Womble St., Siler City, was charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing of Kelly Gene Martin, 39, of 1002 13th St., Siler City, on Sunday afternoon.
 
Officer is named new Pittsboro chief of police
[Dec. 2, 2005] The town of Pittsboro recently named longtime police officer David Collins, a Chatham County native, its new police chief. Collins, 42, joined the police department 23 years ago as a reserve officer and worked his way up to sergeant.

[Nov. 30, 2005] Police are investigating the stabbing death of a Siler City man Sunday afternoon. Kelly Gene Martin, 39, of 1002 13th St. was stabbed once in the chest on a Siler City footpath near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard about 1:50 p.m. Sunday.

[Nov. 28, 2005] The U.S. Department of Justice announced the award of $9,588 to Chatham County, NC, to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who have committed serious crimes in the United States. The goal of this program is to enhance public safety in communities throughout the nation.

[Nov. 10, 2005] The state Highway Patrol is seeking information about a fatal hit-and-run accident Sunday on U.S. 421 between Siler City and Sanford. About 3 a.m. Sunday, a pickup truck hit a pedestrian standing on U.S. 421 near the entrance of the Sports Arena, said Trooper D.C. Pate. The driver didn't stop, and law enforcement is looking for the vehicle and its driver.

[Oct. 24, 2005] Siler City police are investigating the shooting death of a man found in a car Friday night. Police had not released the man's identity Sunday but said the man was found shortly after 10 p.m. in a car near Siler City's Brookwood Apartments.

[Oct. 4, 2005] The Chatham County Sheriff's Office arrested Penny Culberson, 31, of 5624 Log Cabin Road, Ramseur after Randolph County Sheriff’s Office found her near Bennett and brought her to deputies on Friday. Deputies had been looking for her since mid-June after she failed to appear in Chatham County Court for a felony possession of cocaine charge. Culberson was one of two suspects that Sheriff Webster profiled on the Radio Station G105 out of Raleigh on Thursday September 22nd.

[Oct. 4, 2005] Chatham County ICE Team and Sheriff’s Canine “Meko” assisted Chapel Hill Vice/Narcotics Unit and the State Alcohol Law Enforcement agents in an early morning raid of a College fraternity last week. Officers searched a frat house on Pittsboro Street in Chapel Hill that they had information was illegal selling alcohol to minors and operating a bar without proper licenses.

[Oct. 4, 2005] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Graham man for possession of a stolen trailer on Thursday. He is the second suspect to be arrested for the crime. On September 19, officers of the Pittsboro Police Department recovered a stolen flat bed single axle trailer valued at $1,250.00 at the residence of Dakarai Ramseur of 239 North Masonic Street in Pittsboro.
 
Man charged in Moncure stabbing deathMan charged in Moncure stabbing death
[Oct. 3, 2005] Around 2:00 am, Saturday morning, Chatham County Deputies responded to 460 North Drive in Moncure in reference to an assault that had occurred at that location. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 50-year-old white male that apparently lived at the same address deceased with multiple stab wounds. Deputies found the suspect, Daniel Reynolds, 45, at the residence and immediately placed in custody.

Siler City man charged with statutory rapeSiler City man charged with statutory rape
[Sep. 25, 2005] A Siler City man was arrested on Thursday for six counts of statutory rape when he was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old child. Chatham County Deputies began working a runaway juvenile case last week when they received information that an underage female voluntarily got into a car driven by Juan Escalona.
 
Stolen tractor recovered, arrest madeStolen tractor recovered, arrest made
[Sep. 6, 2005] Chatham County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a Pittsboro man for possessing a stolen tractor. On September 1, deputies recovered a stolen John Deere Tractor from a resident in the Bear Creek area. The tractor was reported stolen by Tommy King of McLaurin Road, Bear Creek on October 4, 2002 and is valued at $18,000.00.
