Graham man arrested on forgery charges[Mar. 7, 2006] Joseph Herring, 23, of 1650 East Main Street, Graham was arrested on Tuesday by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest was a result of a 3 week-long investigation conducted by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Division.
Sheriff speaks to House Select Committee[Mar. 7, 2006] Sheriff Webster had the opportunity of speaking to a House Select Committee on Sex Offender Registration Laws on Tuesday, February 28. He spoke to the committee at the request of the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association about issues Sheriff’s across the state were having in reference to Sex Offender Registration Laws. The law, adopted in 1996, requires persons convicted of certain sex crimes to register with the Sheriff’s Office in the county where they reside.
Deputies search for missing person[Feb. 26, 2006] Chatham County deputies are looking for Robert Raybun, 49, of 30118-A Settle Drive, . He was last seen at his residence in northern Chatham County late last Friday night, February 17th, after a friend had dropped him off there. Deputies have searched the surrounding area with personnel and dogs and have not found any sign of Raybun.
Three store clerks arrested in Pittsboro[Feb. 20, 2006] Three people have been arrested in connection with an investigation at a Chatham County convenience store. Members of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, the Pittsboro Police Department and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Unit were investigating at the Snack Stop convenience store in Pittsboro after receiving reports of clerks selling alcohol to underage people.
Man and woman charged with drug trafficking[Jan. 22, 2006] A man and woman were charged with drug trafficking Friday after police found nearly 50 pounds marijuana, cash and weapons in their possession. Zitlaly Ramirez Ortiz, 26, and Clark Wesley Polk, 26, were charged with trafficking in marijuana, conspiracy to traffic in marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.
Bynum man arrested on cocaine charges[Jan. 9, 2006] The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office Special Incident Response Team (SIRT), the Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team executed a search warrant at 334 Bynum Church Road, Bynum on Saturday. The warrant was a result of a month long undercover drug operation where undercover agents purchased cocaine from Kevin Durwood Scott, 19.
Sheriff's office investigates unattended death[Jan. 4, 2006] Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 105 Persimmon Hill Road, Pittsboro Monday morning to investigate a deceased person located at that address. Investigators determined that Karen Crawford, 48, lived at the residence and died sometime in the last two days.
Robbins woman arrested for B&E[Dec. 31, 2005] Michael Wilson of 20448 NC Hwy 902, Bennett reported a break in to an outbuilding on November 27th. He stated that a Poulan chain saw, a Stihl chain saw and weed eater and a Skil saw, valued at $800, were stolen.
Sheriff's office provides 40 children with Christmas gifts[Dec. 24, 2005] The festive season is a time for joy, sharing as well as giving, however some families can’t always afford to provide for their children during the holidays. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Christmas “Shop with a Cop” program provided 40 children the opportunity to shop at Wal-Mart with a $50 gift certificate provided to them by Sheriff Richard Webster.
Chatham deputies arrest robbery suspect[Dec. 21, 2005] Chatham County deputies arrested a robbery suspect Friday afternoon in New Hanover County. New Hanover County officers contacted the Sheriff’s Office when they discovered that the suspect was wanted by our agency for felonious common law robbery, felonious larceny of a motor vehicle and assault on a female.
Sheriff Webster holds annual Christmas party[Dec. 16, 2005] Sheriff Richard Webster had his annual Christmas celebration recently at Best Foods in Siler City. He gave out several awards to officers for their accomplishments over the past year.
