[Jan. 22, 2006] A man and woman were charged with drug trafficking Friday after police found nearly 50 pounds marijuana, cash and weapons in their possession. Zitlaly Ramirez Ortiz, 26, and Clark Wesley Polk, 26, were charged with trafficking in marijuana, conspiracy to traffic in marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.

[Jan. 9, 2006] The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office Special Incident Response Team (SIRT), the Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team executed a search warrant at 334 Bynum Church Road, Bynum on Saturday. The warrant was a result of a month long undercover drug operation where undercover agents purchased cocaine from Kevin Durwood Scott, 19.

[Dec. 13, 2005] A month long undercover investigation involving a prostitution ring has lead to the arrest of three subjects near Siler City on Friday. Undercover Chatham County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at 206 Airport Road, Siler City and arrested Minerva Calderon, 39; Gabriella Bonilla, 25; and Adrian Navarro, 31; all of 206 Airport Road.
 
Tractor-trailer slams into pickup head on; 1 dead, 1 injured
[Dec. 9, 2005] A Siler City man was killed and another seriously injured Thursday when a tractor- trailer crossed the center line of U.S. 64 and slammed into their pickup truck head-on. Roger Alex Barth, 50, was driving the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, John Russell Mcpherson, 47, of Siler City, was listed in stable condition at UNC Hospitals Thursday evening.

[Dec. 2, 2005] Siler City police arrested a man Tuesday they say stabbed and killed another during an altercation on a local footpath over the weekend. Harold Kenneth Alston, 53, of 506 Womble St., Siler City, was charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing of Kelly Gene Martin, 39, of 1002 13th St., Siler City, on Sunday afternoon.

[Dec. 2, 2005] The town of Pittsboro recently named longtime police officer David Collins, a Chatham County native, its new police chief. Collins, 42, joined the police department 23 years ago as a reserve officer and worked his way up to sergeant.

[Nov. 30, 2005] Police are investigating the stabbing death of a Siler City man Sunday afternoon. Kelly Gene Martin, 39, of 1002 13th St. was stabbed once in the chest on a Siler City footpath near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard about 1:50 p.m. Sunday.

[Nov. 28, 2005] The U.S. Department of Justice announced the award of $9,588 to Chatham County, NC, to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who have committed serious crimes in the United States.
