[Apr. 2, 2010] On Friday March 12, 2010, Louis Wilson began a life sentence without the possibility of parole after the Chatham District Attorney’s Office obtained a conviction for 1st Degree Murder in the bludgeoning death of Tracey Baldwin of Chatham County. The life sentence handed down on Friday by resident Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour was the fifth life sentence obtained by the Chatham County District Attorney’s office during the past 17 months.

[Oct. 25, 2009] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office conducted several narcotics detection operations during the recent Shakori Hills music festival and made 67 criminal charges and 16 separate arrests at or near the facility. Deputies seized more than three ounces of psychedelic mushrooms, eight ounces of marijuana, eight units of LSD, 54 units of ecstasy, four units of Oxycontin, one unit of Klozapam, and 1.4 grams of powder ecstasy.

Nicole Schaafsma, 26, of 305 Honeysuckle Drive, is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Aug. 17 to face felony charges in the case.

[Aug. 11, 2009] A Sanford man faces drug charges after a Good Samaritan called to report the suspect was in need of help. Lee Aaron Matthews, 28, of 1603 Cotton Road, Sanford, is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Sept. 14 on the felony counts.

[Aug. 9, 2009] A motorist stopped for a traffic violation was charged with drunken driving and drug counts by Cpl. Phillip Richard and Cpl. Chris Marioles of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office Criminal Enforcement team. Deputies said Carey Jones, 20, of 7730 Howards Mill Road, Bennett, was observed in a blue Toyota pickup weaving left of center.

[Jul. 24, 2009] Chatham County authorities arrested a Goldston man after they discovered four small plots of marijuana at his home. Detectives seized 12 marijuana plants and nearly 40 grams of processed marijuana during the search. The total street value of the drugs is more than $24,000.

[Jul. 23, 2009] Three North Carolina men have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the operation of a methamphetamine lab in a vacant dorm room at Campbell University. The deputies charged Steven Michael Cole, 29, of Siler City; Victor Wesley Evans Jr., 33, of Benson; and Wesley Craig Hickman, 26, of Dunn.
