Community Watch at work in Chatham County[Mar. 13, 2009] On Saturday Feb. 21, 2008 the Norwood Crossing Community Watch along with the Cottages of Stonegate came together for coffee and pastries before setting out for a morning improving the neighborhood. Sheriff Richard Webster and Lt. Steve Maynor, Chatham County Sheriff’s Community Service Officer both attended and even assisted in the installation of two of the 15 community watch signs that were installed.
Proposals requested to offer juvenile justice services in Chatham[Mar. 11, 2009] The Chatham County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council has announced expected state funding available to provide targeted juvenile justice services in the county for the upcoming fiscal year, starting July 1, 2009. The Council expects $151,099 in funding to be available through the N.C. Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP).
Fatality discovered in house fire in eastern Chatham[Jan. 22, 2009] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Fire Marshal’s Office in the investigation of a house fire that occurred at 1232 Luther Road, Apex (Chatham County) on Thursday morning, January 15.
Stolen car sold as scrap metal[Jul. 10, 2008] On June 26, 2008 Kendrick Edwards reported a vehicle stolen to Deputy Summers. Detective Sergeants David Green and Chris Perry investigated the case. On July 3, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office arrested Steven Earl Brown, 28, of 3080-B Lystra Church Road, Chapel Hill.
Another banking scam incident reported in Chatham County[Jul. 10, 2008] The Chatham County Council on Aging reports that an older adult in Chatham County received a phone call from a person claiming to represent Wachovia Bank in an effort to fraudulently obtain checking account information.
Shots fired at deputy[Jul. 10, 2008] About 1:00 am on July 5, 2008, Chatham County Deputies responded to a disturbance at 739 Old US 1, Moncure. Deputies arrived to find about 60 people at the location. At least two individuals began fighting when deputies arrived. While Corporal Phillip Richard was trying to stop the two from fighting, an unknown subject held a gun above the crowd and shot in the direction of Deputy Richard.
Sheriff's office completes investigation of inmate escape[Feb. 20, 2008] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has completed an investigation on the events that led to the escape of five inmates from the Chatham County Detention Center. The investigation revealed that written policy and procedures were in place to secure the Detention Center and prevent the escape. Further investigation revealed that failure to follow these procedures and policy was the ultimate reason for this incident.
Neave kills Nobles in hit and run[Feb. 6, 2008] On January 31, Jose Augusto Neave, 28, of 7 Beech Road, Chapel Hill was arrested by Trooper Davis of the North Carolina Highway Patrol for the following charges: felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by vehicle, failing to report an accident, driving while license revoked and failing to appear in court.
Chatham deputies make cocaine and marijuana arrests[Oct. 22, 2007] Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office ICE Team arrested 2 Chatham County men after a traffic stop was conducted on the Hwy 64 Bypass near Pittsboro. Officers seized 3.2 grams of cocaine and 31 grams of Marijuana after a search the vehicle was conducted.
Man on horseback charged with shooting[Oct. 22, 2007] Chatham County Deputies arrested Terry Phillips, 38, of 469 Alston Bridge Road, Siler City on an assault charges pursuant to an incident that occurred on Alston Bridge Road on Sunday, October 14. Phillips is accused of shooting into an occupied vehicle as well as pointing a gun at several motorists.
Siler City man arrested for stealing vehicle[Oct. 22, 2007] Chatham County deputies arrested a Siler City man after officers responded to a stolen vehicle call. The vehicle, a 1993 Ford Explorer was reported stolen on Wednesday morning, October 17, by Ricky Greeson of Siler City.
