Chatham deputies investigate shooting death[Jun. 27, 2004] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Larry Culberson, 49, of 81 Culberson Drive just outside of Siler City. Deputies responded to Mr. Culberson’s residence shortly after 9:00 PM last night after his body was found by a family member.
Pittsboro woman arrested for drug violations[Jun. 26, 2004] Sanford - A Pittsboro woman was arrested after police say she took drugs from the pharmacy where she was employed. Brandy Renee Puryear, 22, of 601 Honeysuckle Drive, was charged with several drug violations after police found her in possession of more than 1,500 dosage units of Alprazolam and 300 dosage units of Percocet.
Robbery suspect sought in Chatham County[Jun. 26, 2004] Chatham County Deputies are looking for two men who robbed two Sanford residents Friday night in Goldston. Tabitha and Robert Willet stopped at Galaxy Gas in Goldston to purchase a newspaper and were confronted by two black males in the parking lot.
Siler City kidnapping suspect sent to prison[Jun. 22, 2004] Sanford - A Siler City man that prosecutors claim was in charge of a plot to kidnap and rob three Sanford teens pleaded guilty Tuesday. Jose Ortiz Fabian, 27, of 5 Lost Creek Church Road, Siler City, pleaded guilty in Lee County Superior Court to three counts of kidnapping and two counts of armed robbery. He was sentenced to between 15 and 17 years in prison.
Chapel Hill man arrested in armed robbery case[Jun. 21, 2004] Chatham County deputies have arrested a Chapel Hill man in connection with an attempted robbery that occurred off of Dalton Road in Northern Chatham County early this morning. John Walker Jr., 18, of 635 Dalton Drive, Chapel Hill was charged with attempted armed robbery.

Chapel Hill man charged in connection with B&Es[Apr. 28, 2004] Rashad Edwards, 25, of 1545 US 15-501 South, Chapel Hill was arrested by Chatham County Sheriff’s detectives on Tuesday after a lengthy surveillance operation resulted in a vehicle and foot chase on April 23.
Pittsboro man arrested on drug charges[Apr. 23, 2004] After a traffic stop was conducted by the Motor Carrier Enforcement Division of the State Highway Patrol, agents of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit were called to assist in a drug investigation of Guy Grady Sanders Jr., 22, of 215 Churchwood Lane in Pittsboro.
Chatham drug agents arrest Pittsboro man[Apr. 15, 2004] Chatham County drug agents arrested a subject, Rinaldo Montez “Peety” Marsh, 28, B/M, for a number drug charges after a lengthy drug operation. The operation consisted a search located at 782 Hillsboro Street in Pittsboro.
Chatham deputies arrest breaking and entering suspect[Mar. 26, 2004] After four days of surveillance, Deputies arrested Christopher Douglas McGhee, 40, white male, of 144 Pumphouse Loop, Chapel Hill on the property of North Chatham Elementary School in Northern Chatham County. Investigators have been investigating a rash of burglaries to the school over the past several weeks and felt they found a pattern that the suspect was using.
Chatham deputies arrest Governor’s Village bank robbery suspect[Mar. 25, 2004] Chatham County Deputies arrested Clyde James Johnson, 23, of 112 Highway 54 Bypass, Apt Q3, Carrboro this past weekend and charged him with Common Law Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property. The arrest was in connection to the RBC Centura Bank robbery that occurred on March 24 in the Governor’s Village Shopping Center in northern Chatham County.

RBC Centura Bank In Governors Village Robbed[Mar. 23, 2004] At approximately 11:00 AM, The RBC Centura Bank in Governors Village in Northern Chatham County was robbed by two black males in their early 20’s. The subjects entered the bank, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Chatham deputies arrest murder suspect[Mar. 2, 2004] Siler City - Around 9:00 p.m., Chatham County deputies responded to 509 Colonial Park Road, Siler City in reference to an assault that had occurred at that location. When officers arrived on scene, they found Richard Lee Alston, 43, of Asheboro deceased and Sandy Alston, 30, of Siler City seriously injured with multiple stab wounds.
Chatham County deputies arrest local robbery suspect[Feb. 20, 2004] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a subject who is believed to be connected in a string of robberies in and around grocery stores in a 4 county area. Authorities from Sanford, Graham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Pittsboro and Chatham County were looking for a B/M, approximately 6 foot tall and light skin, driving a stolen 1995 Silver Acura Integra in connection with several robberies.
Chatham ex-deputy to get day in court[Feb. 17, 2004] Pittsboro -- The N.C. Court of Appeals has ruled that former Chatham County deputy Dan Phillips should get his day in court in a case that involves allegations of racism, thousands of pounds of missing marijuana and former Sheriff Ike Gray. Writing for a unanimous three-judge panel, Judge Patricia Timmons-Goodson said a lower court was right to dismiss claims by Phillips that targeted the official actions of Gray and former Chief Deputy Randy Keck, but wrong to dismiss a claim against Gray individually.
