Deputies arrest Efland man on drug charges[May 7, 2005] On May 5, The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit conducted an undercover drug operation at Cole Park Plaza in Northern Chatham County and arrested Jason Finch, 30, of 2430 Efland Cedar Grove Road, Efland on Felony Narcotics charges. Deputies recovered $400.00 in cash from Finch who was attempting to purchase 4 ounces of Marijuana from undercover agents of the Sheriff’s Office.
Two found shot to death in Carbonton[Apr. 25, 2005] Chatham County deputies responded to Little Indian Creek Road on Saturday to investigate an apparent homicide. A relative discovered the bodies of the Richard and Karen Brown around 9:30 a.m. Saturday at their house on Little Indian Creek Road near Carbonton. Both were husband and wife and appeared to have been shot to death some time last week.
Chatham Sheriff's Office identifies man found beaten near Jordan Lake[Apr. 23, 2005] The Chatham County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who was found naked and severely beaten near Jordan Lake Wednesday morning. After publicizing photos of a "Boss Hog" tattoo across the victim's back, investigators received unconfirmed information Thursday night that the victim was Martin Kyle Taylor-Brown of Augusta, Ga.
Identity of assault victim sought[Apr. 21, 2005] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s help in identifying an assault victim that was found in Northern Chatham County this morning about 9:00 am. An unidentified nude Black male, light skin, between the ages of 25 and 35 was found near Eagle Point off of Hwy 751 near the Durham County line.
Early morning raid yields six arrests for insurance fraud[Apr. 12, 2005] Raleigh -- Commissioner Jim Long and the North Carolina Department of Insurance today announced the arrest of six Chatham and Randolph County residents suspected of masterminding an extensive auto insurance fraud ring with possible ties to the illegal drug trade. The arrests came as a result of an early morning raid of the suspects' residences today, after a grand jury returned 45 indictments in Siler City yesterday.

Moncure man arrested on drug charges[Mar. 29, 2005] The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit with the assistance of the Special Incident Response Team (SIRT) and the State Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant on Thursday at 53 Haywood Road in Moncure; the residence of Roger “Cubby” Smith. The search was the result of an intense undercover drug operation that took several months to complete. Smith was arrested without incident.
Chase, manhunt ends in arrest[Mar. 28, 2005] Bonlee -- A Rowland man was arrested by Chatham County officers Sunday after a 15-hour manhunt that started with a high-speed chase down US 421, police said. William Oscar Baker Jr., 21, was arrested at about 4 p.m. and charged with felonious possession of a stolen vehicle, felonious possession of a firearm by a felon, felonious breaking, entering and larceny and resist, delay and obstruction of an officer, authorities said.
Shots fired call leads to arrest of Siler City man[Mar. 20, 2005] A Siler City man was arrested Friday when deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located at 3874 US 15-501 north of Pittsboro after a report that someone was shooting in the area. When officers arrived they found Pascual Mendoza and Erica Hilario near a white Chevy Lumina that was owned by Hilario.
Amber Alert issued for girl, 14[Mar. 18, 2005] An Amber Alert has been issued for a 14-year-old California girl. The girl is believed to be in the company of two men, according to a Siler City Police Department release. Authorities say the girl voluntarily ran away from her home and is not believed to be in danger. Delia Marquez, 14, stands about 5-feet 2-inches tall. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Registered sex offenders in Chatham County[Mar. 16, 2005] The North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry was established in January 1996 due to the General Assembly's enactment of Article 27A of Chapter 14 of the North Carolina General Statutes (NCGS 14-208.5). This law requires a person who is a resident of North Carolina and who has a reportable conviction to maintain registration with the sheriff of the county where the person resides. Teen in stable condition after shooting[Mar. 15, 2005] A 15-year-old from the Gulf community is in stable condition at Duke Hospital after he was shot in the arm and chest Friday, according to Chatham County sheriff's deputies. Deputies said the shooting happened after a disturbance at the home of James Atkinson, 846 Clarence McKeithan Road, Sanford. Atkinson reported to deputies that someone had attempted to forcibly enter his residence. Atkinson said he heard someone yelling and kicking on the door, so he fired a shotgun through the door.
Liberty man arrested on B&E charge[Mar. 12, 2005] Chatham County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Alex Troy Owens III on a Breaking and Entering charge pursuant to an incident that occurred on Saturday. The original case was reported to the Sheriff’s Office by a member of the Rocky River Friends Meeting located at 1795 Staley-Snow Camp Road, Siler City when deputies responded to a report of a breaking and entering at that location.
