Two die in crashes near Siler City[Jan. 15, 2005] Two people died in traffic accidents Thursday night and Friday morning. Ahmed Sahmy Sherif, 19, of 15291 N.C. 902, Bear Creek, died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday in an accident on Old U.S. 421, about 3.4 miles south of Siler City, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. Patricia Fields Hart, 51, of 16062 N.C. 902, Bear Creek, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday in a two-car accident on Bonlee School Road, about 6.4 miles south of Siler City.
Man arrested after marijuana growing operation discovered[Jan. 15, 2005] Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve a warrant on a subject in Northern Chatham County and in the process, discovered a small indoor marijuana growing operation. Deputies arrived at 136 Fallen Oak Lane, Chapel Hill to serve an Order for Arrest on Jonathon Dirck Martin for failing to appear in court for a traffic violation.
Chapel Hill men arrested on felony drug charges[Jan. 12, 2005] Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s “ICE” team, Canine Unit and the Narcotics Division arrested two Chapel Hill men on felony drug charges after an undercover drug operation ended in Pittsboro on Wednesday. Deputies arrested Bailey Ayscue, 28, and his cousin Jason Ayscue, 33, both of 115 South Merritt Mill Road, Chapel Hill.
Pittsboro man charged with burglary and robbery[Jan. 10, 2005] A Pittsboro man has been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred at Lot 44 Five Oaks Mobile Home Park near Pittsboro. Rashad Farrar, 16, of 180 NC 87 North, Pittsboro was arrested after deputies responded to a call from Joe McSwain on January 5th.
Authorities locate body suspected to be missing person[Jan. 6, 2005] Searchers located a body of a black male suspected to be that of Willie Headen this morning after a search was organized by volunteers from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, the Pittsboro Fire Department, North Carolina Forestry, North Chatham Fire Department and East Chatham Rescue Squad. The body was found approximately 500 yards from the residence of Willie Headen, an alzheimers patient, who was reported missing on Saturday October 16
Chatham deputies attend domestic violence training[Jan. 4, 2005] The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office enrolled 34 of its employees recently for domestic violence training at the Pittsboro campus of Central Carolina Community College. Employees from patrol, investigations, narcotics, the I.C.E team, the civil team, and School Resource Officers were all represented at the annual conference titled Working Together to Keep Families Safe – A Focus on Prevention.
Body Of missing Chatham man found in creek[Dec. 21, 2004] A body found in a Siler City creek has been identified as a 73-year-old man who was reported missing for months. Police were called to the creek area behind Hart's Furniture Warehouse on Sunday. The body was taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill where it was identified as James "JD" Fikes.
Moncure drug suspect arrested by deputies[Dec. 1, 2004] Tommy Gene East Jr., 34, of 248 Ellis Road, Moncure turned himself in to Sheriff’s Deputies today after Narcotics Agents raided a residence on Ellis Road in Corinth and linked him to the largest recovery of Crystal Methamphetamine in Sheriff’s Office history. Chatham County Narcotics Agents, the Chatham County Special Incident Response Team and Cary Police Officers executed a search warrant on November 29th and seized 12 ounces of Crystal Methamphetamine, 5 pounds of Marijuana, 3 ounces of Cocaine and several doses of Anabolic Steroids. Also seized were a 45 caliber pistol and a 20 gauge shotgun.
Body believed to be Chatham murder suspect found[Nov. 30, 2004] The body of a man believed to be Brian Keith Marshall was located in a wooded area off the US 64 bypass in Pittsboro today around 4:00 PM. The body was located in a vehicle that Marshall was driving after he allegedly killed Richard Eugene Kelly and critically injuring his wife Melody. Marshall was wanted by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office for the shootings and they have been searching for him since the incident occurred on October 27.
Arrest made in Thanksgiving Day shooting[Nov. 29, 2004] Chatham County Investigators have made an arrest in the Thanksgiving Day shooting death of a Siler City man that took place at 3561 Mount Vernon Hickory Mountain Road just outside of Siler City. The victim was identified as James Wade Taylor, age 63, of 12084 US 64 East, Lot 2, Siler City.
Moncure man sought for largest methamphetamine seizure in Sheriff's history[Nov. 29, 2004] Deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Narcotics Division and the Chatham County SIRT Unit executed a search warrant located at 192 Ellis Road in Moncure and found more than 12 ounces of Methamphetamine and large amounts of other illegal drugs. According to Lt. Charles Gardner, Narcotics Supervisor for the Sheriff’s Office, the Methamphetamine seizure was the largest in the history of the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies are looking for Tommy Gene East Jr., 34, of 248 Ellis Road, Moncure.
Police nab murder suspect[Oct. 2, 2004] Lillington - Harnett sheriff's deputies followed the trail of a murder that happened in eastern Harnett County all the way up to the Moncure area of Chatham County. Larry David Wilson Jr., 41, of Fuquay-Varina, was charged Tuesday with murder after the shooting death of his girlfriend, Miriam McLeoud, 45, also of Fuquay-Varina. Deputies had to go to Moncure to make the arrest, with the help of Chatham County sheriff's deputies.
Detectives arrest Wilmington woman on 39 counts of forgery[Oct. 1, 2004] Amy Darlene Maness, age 48, of 231 Peiffer Ave, Wilmington, NC was taken into custody and transported back to Chatham County on September 24th by the Wilmington Police Department after conducting a routine traffic stop. Ms Maness, a former resident of Chatham County, fled after learning she was wanted for questioning in connection with an investigation involving the Uttering and Forgery of 39 personal checks.
Chapel Hill woman arrested in robbery case[Sep. 20, 2004] Chatham County deputies arrested a Chapel Hill woman today in connection with a robbery that occurred off of Pumphouse Loop, Chapel Hill in Northern Chatham County in June of this year. Crystal Kennedy, W/F, of Suite B Kingswood Apts., Chapel Hill was charged with Common Law Robbery, False Imprisonment and Injury to Personal Property.
Bear Creek man arrested on mMethamphetamine charges[Sep. 19, 2004] On September 16, The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office’s Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Unit, executed an undercover drug operation at 18935 Hwy 902, Bear Creek; the residence of James Shannon Tillman, 34.
