Sanford man arrested after high-speed chase

Siler City, NC - A Sanford man was arrested Friday morning after a high-speed chase ended with the suspect crashing his vehicle near a church on Harrison Place in Chatham County.

Stacy Mark Mansfield, 21, of 1921 Tramway Road, Sanford, was arrested and charged with felonious fleeing to elude arrest, failing toyield to blue lights and siren, reckless driving and several other driving charges.

He was being held under a $1,500.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Siler City on October 24.

The five-mile chase began on U.S. 421 near the Piney Grove Road exit. Chatham County deputy Chris Brown reported pursing the 2003 White Mitsubishi Gallant Mansfield driven by Mansfield to the Sam Fields Road exit and on to Harrison Place.

Mansfield reached speeds of more than 120 mph before crashing the vehicle.

Following the accident, Mansfield is accused of running from the vehicle before being caught at Central Carolina Hospital, where he was being treated from minor cuts.
