Chapel Hill, NC - Chatham County ICE Team and Sheriff’s Canine “Meko” assisted Chapel Hill Vice/Narcotics Unit and the State Alcohol Law Enforcement agents in an early morning raid of a College fraternity last week. Officers searched a frat house on Pittsboro Street in Chapel Hill that they had information was illegal selling alcohol to minors and operating a bar without proper licenses.

State Alcohol Law Enforcement agents cited 18 people on 27 charges after raiding the house.

The “bar” had been operating Tuesday and Thursday nights for at least a month. When officers entered they discovered that the bar was set up complete with stools and a refrigerator.

The bar sold seven types of beer, including Pabst Blue Ribbon for $1 a bottle, Newcastle Brown Ale for $2, Corona for $1.75 and Smirnoff Ice for $2. Mixed drinks ran $1.75 and shots were $1. In addition to the beer, agents found vodka, tequila, peach schnapps, whiskey, rum, brandy and peppermint schnapps.

Approximately 30 people were present at the time of the raid and all were cooperative. Agents checked identifications, and everyone 21 or older was allowed to leave. If someone had alcohol and was younger than 21, they were cited for underage possession of alcohol. Agents charged 18 people with 27 different drug and alcohol violations.

“Meko” assisted by helping officers find 35 grams of marijuana and 10 marijuana smoking devices. Officers also seized $480.00 in cash.
