Siler City, NC - A Siler City man was killed and another seriously injured Thursday when a tractor- trailer crossed the center line of U.S. 64 and slammed into their pickup truck head-on.
Roger Alex Barth, 50, was driving the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, John Russell Mcpherson, 47, of Siler City, was listed in stable condition at UNC Hospitals Thursday evening.
According to Maj. Bill Harman of the Siler City Police, the accident happened about 7:45 a.m. on U.S. 64 in front of the Stonecrest Apartments.
Charges are pending against James Henry Caviness, 51, of Bennett, who was driving the tractor-trailer east on U.S. 64 when it crossed the center line and hit Barth's truck, Harman said. Caviness was taken to Chatham Hospital with minor injuries.
