Chatham deputies arrest murder suspect

Around 9:00 p.m., Chatham County Deputies responded to 509 Colonial Park Road, Siler City in reference to an assault that had occurred at that location. When officers arrived on scene, they found Richard Lee Alston, 43, of Asheboro deceased and Sandy Alston, 30, of Siler City seriously injured with multiple stab wounds. Richard Alston was pronounced dead on scene and transported to UNC Hospital Medical Examiners Office and Sandy Alston was transported to Chatham Hospital, treated and later released.

Deputies found the suspect, Jose Martin Chavez-Cervantes, 41, attempting to break into a vehicle on Stockyard Road and took him into custody without incident. He was later charged by detectives with First Degree Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury. He has no bond and his court date is March 3.
