After an extensive investigation by numerous authorities that included the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Carrboro Police, State Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies arrested Clyde James Johnson, 23, of 112 Highway 54 Bypass, Apt Q3, Carrboro this past weekend and charged him with Common Law Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property. The arrest was in connection to the RBC Centura Bank robbery that occurred on March 24 in the Governor’s Village Shopping Center in northern Chatham County.

At approximately 11:00 AM, on March 24, the RBC Centura Bank in Governors Village in northern Chatham County was robbed by two black males in their early 20s. The subjects entered the bank, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. In making their escape, the vehicle they were driving was wrecked and abandoned near the bank. The two left on foot heading north towards Durham near the Old Farrington Road. The vehicle, a red Jeep Cherokee, had been stolen from Durham. Investigators also seized another vehicle that the suspects intended to use to escape from the bank. Deputies found an older gray Oldsmobile, registered to the suspect near the bank that they felt was suspicious in nature. Surveillance was conducted on the Oldsmobile but no one returned. Investigators later linked the vehicle with the suspect and it was taken as evidence. Detectives recovered all the money that was taken and many items of evidence that connect the suspect to the crime.

Investigators feel that an arrest of the second suspect is close and are hoping the case will be closed by the end of the week. Johnson’s bond was set at $10,000 secured and the FBI is considering Federal Bank Robbery charges in the future.
