On Aug 4th, a marijuana eradication operation was conducted in Chatham County by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit, State Bureau of Investigation and the Air National Guard. Drug Agents of the Sheriff’s Office received information that marijuana was growing in areas near Campbell Road in the Goldston area and Gilmore Lodge Road near US 421.

122 marijuana plants were located and eradicated from two plots. The plants were ranging in size from 2 to 4 feet tall. The plants were seized and destroyed by burning. Estimated street value of one hundred and twenty two plants at maturity is 305,000 dollars.

Similar operations are planned throughout the summer. The Sheriff’s Office eradicated nearly 2200 marijuana plants last year.
