The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a subject who is believed to be connected in a string of robberies in and around grocery stores in a 4 county area. Authorities from Sanford, Graham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Pittsboro and Chatham County were looking for a B/M, approximately 6 foot tall and light skin, driving a stolen 1995 Silver Acura Integra in connection with several robberies. The suspect would snatch purses from female victims and leave the scene in the above vehicle. The vehicle was stolen from Yanceyville on February 11.

Chatham County Sheriff Richard Webster sent out a special duty force of about 10 officers last night to search for the suspect and vehicle. At approximately 10:15 PM, Deputies observed the vehicle on Mann’s Chapel Road in Northern Chatham County and conducted a traffic stop on Dover Road. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect Bennie Frank Towns, 38, of Chapel Hill was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property and jailed under a $10,000 secured bond. Local agencies are coordinating efforts to possible link Towns to their respective cases.

No Photo will be released at this time until other agencies have had an opportunity to conduct further investigations.
