Siler City, NC - A motorist stopped for a traffic violation was charged with drunken driving and drug counts by Cpl. Phillip Richard and Cpl. Chris Marioles of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office Criminal Enforcement team.

Deputies said Carey Jones, 20, of 7730 Howards Mill Road, Bennett, was observed in a blue Toyota pickup weaving left of center. The corporals stopped the vehicle, and Jones submitted to various field sobriety tests, but did poorly.

During a search of the vehicle, 4.5 grams of marijuana was seized.

Jones was later transported to Siler City Police Department, where he registered a .08 blood-alcohol concentration when given a breath test. He was arrested on charges of driving while impaired, possession of marijuana, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, underage drinking, and driving left of center. He was released pursuant to a custody release and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Sept. 9.
