Pittsboro, NC — Matthew Moldenhauer, 23, of 611 Lystra Estates Drive, Chapel Hill, is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court on Monday to face charges that he robbed an ATM customer in Cole Park Plaza while threatening him with a broken bottle.

He was charged with felonious robbery with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats. He was jailed under a $35,000 secured bond.

Chatham County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Moldenhauer following a robbery at an ATM in northern Chatham County. A Pittsboro man reported to deputies around 5:50 p.m. last Tuesday that a white male robbed him of money using a broken bottle at the Cashpoints ATM. The man advised officers after the robbery that the suspect ran toward the road and got into a white truck. He provided the license plate number of the vehicle to deputies. No injuries were reported.

Officers arrived and tracked down the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had picked up a friend on the road but knew nothing of a robbery. A few hours later, investigators found Moldenhauer hiding in a wooded area on River Forest Road about 4 miles from where the robbery occurred. He was arrested without incident.
