Siler City, NC - Authorities arrested a Chatham County man last week wanted for kidnapping his 2-year-old son in 2006, but the boy remains missing five years after he was taken from his Siler City home at gunpoint.

Jorge Aguilera, 34, of 1305 Sunset Place in Siler City, was charged Monday, November 21 with first-degree kidnapping in connection with the disappearance of Edwin Gonzalez on Oct. 1, 2006.

Maj. Gary Blankenship, with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, said Aguilera and three other armed men broke into a home at 147 Crystal Lane and used duct-tape to tie up Edwin's mother, Florentina Coria, her brother and her father. Edwin and $100 in cash were taken from the home.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for Edwin, but Aguilera managed to flee to Mexico with his son, Blankenship said. The FBI worked with Mexican authorities to capture Aguilera and bring him to the United States.

Edwin, who is now 7, hasn't been found, and investigators believe he is with some of Aguilera's relatives in Mexico, Blakenship said.

Aguilera was also charged with first-degree burglary and failure to appear in court. He was in the Chatham County jail under a $1 million secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

At the time of the kidnapping, Aguilera was awaiting trial on domestic violence charges and had been banned from Coria's house.
