Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Board of Elections is always on the lookout for potential poll workers. It is an excellent way to serve your community (you're paid some small $ too) while you work alongside some very fine folks. Poll working is a long day but rewarding as you realize that you have served the precious and delicate jewel that we (should) hold so dear -- Democracy.
It will also be a busy day as Chatham often has among the highest voter turnout of any of the counties in the state. Experienced folks tell me time goes by fast when you are busy. You may not have time to socialize but you WILL see your neighbors.
I am very proud to have worked in the polls and have seen some very upstanding citizens working there also such as Gene Galin.
This is an important and valuable service to your community. The Informational and Recruitment Session for Poll Workers will be held at 7 p.m. on January 15 in the Ag. Building in Pittsboro. You can call the Board of Elections office at 919-545-8500 for more information.
Thank you Gene, for the Chatlist, the Bulletin Board, The Chatham Journal, AND . . . for the time you put in as a poll worker.
I also have other options available to get involved in our vibrant community as we have a full slate of Democratic Party activities scheduled for February 16 to celebrate Valentine's Day: we will be putting together a group of volunteers to help Habitat for Humanity, conducting a food drive for CORA, and topping the day off with our annual "Fleet Reddish Club 25" banquet with Hodding Carter (from the Jimmy Carter White House) as our guest speaker -- tickets now on sale, $35 per person, contact me.
Karl Kachergis is chairman of the Chatham County Democratic Party
