Pittsboro, NC - Mia Munn entered the race for Chatham County School Board District 1 on Monday.
A former teacher and financial analyst, Munn was urged to run by people in the community. Her highest priority is ensuring that all students in Chatham County schools receive quality instruction and curriculum. Munn is also concerned with providing facilities for students in all parts of the county, as well as open communication within the schools and with the community.
Munn and her husband Dan have raised three sons in Chatham County: Philip, a 1999 graduate of Northwood High School; Andy, a 2006 graduate of Woods Charter School; and Evan, who will graduate from Woods this year. Munn has been involved with Woods since before it opened, volunteering in many capacities including writing the Educational Specifications document for the new school building, serving as PTSA president for two years, and founding the Athletic Boosters.
Asked what she could bring to the school board, Munn answered, “I have a different perspective. I’ve seen the Chatham County Schools from the inside as a parent and from the outside as a community member with children in a very successful charter school. I believe that Chatham County Schools are good for many students, but they can be better. I want us to give all the students in the district an excellent education.”
