Pittsboro, NC - Given the unique historicity of the upcoming Presidential election, the African American Caucus of the Chatham County Democratic Party, is emphatically urging all citizens, particularly African Americans, to exercise prudent vigilance in the observance of May Primary and November General Election procedures in their communities.

Chatham activist Margie Ellison, Chair of the AAC tells African Americans, “ We must demonstrate our support and vote for candidates who represent relevant issues that empower our community. The Caucus wants to get the word out that "we cannot allow those who seek to divide us here in Chatham County to silence our vote in 2008.”

Toward that end, the Caucus is sponsoring a film showing and discussion of the award winning documentary, “AMERICAN BLACKOUT,” on Saturday March 1, 2008 at the Pittsboro campus of Central Carolina Community College (CCCC). The event begins at 11am.

“This film is very powerful because while it depicts how efforts were made to silence our vote, it also shows how powerful we are as a community when we turnout our vote” stated Ellison. AMERICAN BLACKOUT dramatically examines voting irregularities that occurred during the Presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. It also illuminates tactics that allow self-serving political agendas to subvert the democratic process and silence credible voices of dissent.

The African American Caucus feels strongly that AMERICAN BLACKOUT is a must-see event for those who desire to reclaim honesty and fairness in elections and safeguard the sanctity of American voting privileges.
