Annie Bell Dark

The Rev. Annie Bell Milliken Dark of Pittsboro died Aug. 2 at Duke University Hospital. She was 75.

She was a native of Chatham County and studied at the Mitchell Chapel Church School, where she also attended religious services. She worked for UNC Laundry, retiring after 20 years, and served as pastor at White Oak AME Zion Church in Sanford. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the American Legion and the Joy Bells singing group.

A funeral service was conducted Aug. 8 at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Kenneth Brooks.

Survivors include three children, Laura Mae Moore of New York, George Edward Dark of New Jersey and Joseph Michael Dark of Maryland; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

John Thomas Mann

John Thomas Mann of Pittsboro died Aug. 6 at the Four Oaks Pulling Track of an apparent heart attack. He was 61.

An avid tractor-pulling contestant for the last several years, Mann died after having just finished a run. The native of Durham County graduated from Pittsboro High School, where he played football. He retired from N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, where he worked in heat and air-conditioning maintenance for 15 years. He was a member of the Gold Wing Cycle Association, and had trophies and awards from tractor-pulling events across the country. He was a member of Orange Chapel United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rex Brooks and the Rev. Bob Eldridge. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Chad Mann of Pittsboro and Johnny Mann of Chapel Hill; his father, John F. Mann of Pittsboro; a sister, Jennifer Mann of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Orange Chapel United Methodist Church, 1634 Orange Chapel-Clover Garden Road, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27516; or to The Children's Miracle Network.

Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Service and Cremation of Pittsboro.
