ANNIE DARK

PITTSBORO - The Rev. Annie Bell Dark, 85, of Old Graham Road died Tuesday (8/2/05) at Duke Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete by Knotts Funeral Home, Pittsboro.

BILLY ELLIS

SILER CITY - Billy Spencer Ellis, 67, of 4325 Old U.S. 421 N., died Tuesday (8/2/05) at Chatham Hospital.

He was a native of Chatham County and was employed with Bish Enterprises Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Ozzie Woody Ellis; a sister, Hazel Barber, and a brother, Linwood Ellis.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Poe Ellis of the home; a daughter, Sharon Brewer and husband Nelson of Siler City; sons Billy Lewis Ellis and wife Bonnie of Bear Creek and Larry Keith Ellis of Raeford; grandchildren Billy Joe Ellis, Ashley James, Marsha Torres, Ben Sharpe, Lindsey Sharpe and Bridget Ellis and a great-grandson, Mason Tyler Sharpe; brothers Bobby Ellis of Pittsboro, Walter "Dink" Ellis of Bear Creek, Obie Ellis of Lemon Springs and Buck Ellis of Bennett and sisters Rachel Blalock and Nancy Beal, both of Bear Creek, Shirley Thomas of Cameron and Ruby Holt of Siler City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

KIMBERLY WOODY

GOLDSTON - Kimberly Dawn Woody, 21, of 296 N. Church Street, died Tuesday (8/2/05) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Born Oct. 3, 1983, she was a native of Chatham County. She was a graduate of Chatham Central High School, a senior at Mt. Olive College and worked part time at Lowes Foods in Sanford. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Walter and Margaret Atkins Woody, and her maternal grandfather, Joe Ben Goins.

She is survived by parents Wayne and Brenda Goins Woody of the home; sisters Amy Woody and Ashley Woody of the home; a niece, Haley Woody of the home; maternal grandmother, Leona Goins of Sanford; several aunts and uncles and a host of close friends.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8:30 tonight at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. 2nd Ave., Siler City.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road in Goldston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to Criminal Justice Club of Mt. Olive, 634 Henderson Street, Mt. Olive, N.C. 28365.

VIRGINIA HACKNEY

SILER CITY - Virginia Pike Hackney, 96, of 631 Arthur Teague Road, died Thursday (8/4/05) at Chatham Hospital.

She was a native of Chatham County and homemaker. She was the oldest member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Hackney; parents Ben H. and Fleta Teague Pike; brothers Clem Pike, Clyde Pike and Thomas Pike.

She is survived by a son, Wade Hackney and wife Frieda of Siler City; daughters Doris Hinshaw and Betty Johnson and husband Paul, all of Siler City; sisters Rochelle Pettigrew of Burlington and Hazel Mae Isley of Gibsonville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and six special caregivers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Hellard and the Rev. Hobert Isley officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Mountain Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hickory Mountain Baptist Church, c/o Aldena Johnson, 545 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

ANNIE BELL DARK

PITTSBORO - Rev. Annie Bell Milliken Dark, died Tuesday (8/2/05), at Duke University Hospital.

Born on July 22, 1920 in Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late Laura Etta Milliken. She attended Mitchell Chapel Church School for her early grades and she worked at the University of North Carolina Laundry. She joined Mitchell Chapel Church at an early age. Later she pastured her own church, White Oak AME Zion Church. She was known to serve her community in many ways and received numerous awards and citations. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy David Dark.

She is survived by Laura Mae Moore, George Edward Dark, both of New York and Joseph Michael Dark of Marilyn and 14 grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mitchel Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

CALLIE McNEIL

SILER CITY - Callie Bell Foxx McNeil, formerly of Siler City, died Friday (8/5/05) at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro.

She is survived by a daughter Shirley Foxx of Greensboro; sisters Virginia F. White of Liberty, Nancy Todd of Raleigh; a brother Johnny Paul Foxx of Siler City; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Burnett Chapel United Church of Christ in Graham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home, Siler City.

JOHN MANN

PITTSBORO - John Thomas "Tommy" Mann, 61, of River Road, Pittsboro, died Saturday (8/6/05) at the Four Oaks Pulling Track.

He was born March 26, 1944 in Durham County, he was the son of John Fletcher and Lillian Bell Daniel Mann.

An avid tractor pulling contestant for the last several years, he died doing what he loved, having just finished a run.

He graduated from Pittsboro High School, where he played football. He was employed for a time with Sears, but retired after 15 years from N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, where he worked in heat and air conditioning maintenance. He was a member of the Gold Wing Cycle Association and had countless trophies and awards from tractor pulling events across the country. He was a member of Orange Chapel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Daniel Mann.

Surviving are sons Chad Mann of Pittsboro and Johnny Mann of Chapel Hill; his father, John F. Mann of Pittsboro; a sister, Jennifer Mann of Pittsboro and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rex Brooks and the Rev. Bob Eldridge officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to Orange Chapel United Methodist Church or to The Children's Miracle Network.

Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Service and Cremation.
