The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA plans to open a Pittsboro facility in the East Street building that houses the Pitt Stop Cafe.

The 3,500-square-foot fitness center and community development office should open by July 1, Executive Director Jerry Whortan said. He expects to sign the lease for the space this week.

Bruce Murray, currently the member marketing director for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA, will run the office. He will work with the community to figure out what types of programs people want, such as day camps or after-school programs.

A steering committee for the satellite office is being formed.
