Pittsboro, NC - A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 4 pm this afternoon. Most areas of Chatham County have experienced periods of snow and freezing rain this morning. Precipitation began as snow before mixing with sleet later this morning. Freezing rain later this morning will change to rain in the afternoon.

Less than one inch of snow accumulation is expected along with a thin glaze of freezing rain. A brief accumulation of sleet is also possible before warming rains arrive this afternoon.

Due to ground temperatures snow and ice or sleet will accumulate on many surfaces including some roads this morning. Light freezing rain will accumulate on elevated surfaces. Although overall accumulations of snow and ice will be light the timing of the precipitation combined with temperatures should make for a period of hazardous driving conditions around daybreak into early afternoon.

Temperatures in the upper 20s will gradually warm to above freezing in the afternoon. Overnight lows will fall to around freezing in some areas north of Highway 64 which could result in some refreezing of wet road surfaces by Friday morning.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities. Use caution while driving.
