Pittsboro, NC - Concerned with two drownings in 2008 and four thus far in 2009, the Chatham County Jordan Lake Water Safety Committee is looking into reviving the group with new members, fresh ideas and updated action plans for the public use of Jordan Lake.

Historically the committee has had involvement from US Army Corps of Engineers, Chatham County Health Department, Citizen Corps, N.C. State Parks and Recreation Jordan Lake, N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, Chatham County Sheriff's Department, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Cooperative Extension, Crosswinds Marina, Jordan Lake Farm, N.C. Forest Service and private citizens.

The committee is designed to create a safe environment for water-related activities countywide, continuously educate the public in areas of water and boating safety, provide swimming lessons and water safety instructions and place water safety equipment at all Jordan Lake swimming areas.

Those interested in working with the committee should e-mail or call (919) 542-4501.
