Pittsboro, NC - It maybe hard to believe, but income tax time is upon us again. Beginning February 4th, a free income tax preparation service will be available. Designed to assist low to middle income people of all ages, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will provide computerized preparation of your Federal and North Carolina income tax returns. This free service for non-complex returns includes electronic filing. If a refund is due, electronic filing significantly speeds the receipt. All volunteer preparers are trained and tested according to IRS and North Carolina standards.

The service will be offered at two Chatham County locations. Volunteers will work in Pittsboro at the Council On Aging Senior Center on Highway 87 North every other Wednesday and Saturday from February 4th until April 15th. Wednesday hours will be from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, while Saturday hours are 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. In Siler City, volunteers will be available at the Wren Memorial Library, 500 N. 2nd Avenue, every other Wednesday and Saturday starting on February 8th to April 8th. The hours in Siler City are 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Wednesday and 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays.

Appointments are necessary so please call Evelyn White at 542-4512 to arrange your session. Please bring to your appointment your last year’s tax returns, W-2 forms, all 1099 forms for interest, dividends, social security, and other retirement income; totaled medical receipts and charitable contributions, plus social security cards or ITIN’s for yourself, spouse and all dependents. Spanish speaking clients are welcome and may make an appointment by calling Vinculo Hispano at 742-1448. If possible, please bring an interpreter to your session.

VITA is offered through the Orange County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
