A tractor-trailer carrying chickens overturned near Siler City Tuesday morning scattering crates and chickens across the road.
A wreck Tuesday morning scattered chicken crates and chickens along the roadside near U.S. 421 and Elmer Moore Road.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says Thurman McNeill, 57, of Siler City, was traveling on Elmer Moore Road near the U.S. Highway 421 intersection, when his truck ran off to the right of the road, hit a ditch and flipped.
The tractor then caught fire, burning about 80 percent of the truck.
McNeill was treated on the scene and was then airlifted to UNC Hospitals, where he is listed in fair condition.
The road was closed for almost five hours as crews cleared away the wreckage.
Charges in the single-vehicle accident are pending.
