Siler City, NC - Three families will officially leave sub-standard housing behind and receive keys to their new energy-efficient Chatham Habitat for Humanity homes at a dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to share in the celebration. Uplifting music will be provided by Christ United Methodist Church. The Ibarra-Rivera family, the Cervantes-Zavaleta family, and the Margarito-Bernabe family each contributed more than 350 hours toward the construction of their homes and have completed courses designed to prepare them for successful homeownership. They will purchase their homes from Chatham Habitat with 0% interest mortgages. Their payments will in turn help fund homes for more families in need.

A hearty thank you goes to the many volunteers and donors who helped make these families' dreams of homeownership a reality. You are the backbone of Chatham Habitat. With your help, six more children have a safe place to grow and play. Instead of worrying about housing, their parents will be free to think of other things, such as college education for their kids, employment training for themselves, and volunteering at their community association.

Twelve churches joined together to build one of the homes in partnership with the Ibarra Rivera family as part of the Apostles Build program. The following churches served as Apostles, contributing financial and volunteer support: Browns Chapel United Methodist, Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian, Christ United Methodist, First United Methodist of Siler City, Lystra Baptist, Monte Carmelo Bautista Iglesias, Mt. Gilead Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist, and Siler City Presbyterian. In addition, Apex United Methodist, Rives Chapel Baptist, and Pittsboro United Methodist provided volunteer support. Your support makes a huge difference in this mission right in our backyard.

The three homes will complete the Westmont subdivision in Siler City where Chatham Habitat has built houses in partnership with 33 families since 2005. In addition to the homes, the community features a walking trail, two playgrounds, and a volleyball court. Residents are currently working with AmeriCorps member Amanda Sale to create a neighborhood basketball court. Plans are also in the works to participate in National Night Out on August 3 with live music, dancing, and food. The event will be open to the public.
