Sponsor a Snip: Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic for Animals of Needy Guardians

Pittsboro, NC - Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) is sponsoring a series of affordable low cost spay/neuter events for Chatham County residents. Eighteen animals were altered in a mobile unit (Pet Overpopulation Patrol - P.O.P.) by Dr. Wendy Royce at the Siler City Wal-Mart on January 21, 2006.

One event isn't going to fix (pun intended) Chatham County's pet overpopulation issue. We need affordable, efficient and accessible spay/neuter programs. C.A.R.E., in partnership with P.O.P., has scheduled five additional Neuterfests at the same location for February 25, March 25, April 8th, April 29th and June 24th.

With your support, we can continue our series of surgery dates to prevent unwanted births. Fixing one animal means many more lives will be spared from ending up in a shelter or living on the street. In 2004, 1,094 cats and dogs were euthanized at the Chatham County shelter. The average cost to house an animal at the Chatham shelter was over $142 in 2004. This is a cost borne by every Chatham County taxpayer.

C.A.R.E. established a special fund in memory of Lillie Cameron, an animal advocate and founder of the organization. Donations to this fund provide spay/neuter surgeries for pets with guardians that could not afford the procedure otherwise, typically families whose household income is under $40,000 or who receive public assistance.

C.A.R.E. pays the difference between the discounted cost of the surgery and the $20 fee paid by the pet guardian. The average cost to C.A.R.E. of a surgery is $52.

Pet overpopulation is a community problem. Won't you please sponsor a Snip and help save lives through prevention? Send your tax-deductible contribution to C.A.R.E. - Lillie Cameron Fund, P O Box 555, Pittsboro, NC 27312.. For additional information visit our website
