Pittsboro is taking their fundraising for the annual Relay for Life Event to an exciting new level. They have recently teamed up with Kintera Software and the American Cancer Society to offer their teams and participants a tool to use for online donations. “It’s a known fact that over 109 million Americans are online now. That’s a staggering figure that Pittsboro’s Relay for Life just couldn’t afford to ignore!” said Melanie Foster, Pittsboro Relay for Life Online Chairperson. Melanie has been working diligently to get the site ready for its debut at the recent team captain meeting.

Initial reaction to the tool has been very positive. “This gives us a way to reach friends, family, and co-workers across the country that have been touched by cancer but may not be involved in their local Relay”, said Julie Payne, team captain. She added, “I’ve already received a donation from a former co-worker who I have not seen in six years.” Julie was one of the many team captains who registered her team within hours of the site being available.

The website allows a team as well as each individual team member to set up their own fundraising website and to send the website to anyone they know with an e-mail address.

“Another large benefit is that a cancer survivor can register for our relay and be added to our contact database with a few mouse clicks. Our goal, as always, is to honor cancer survivors at our event”, said Carol Esau, Relay Co-chair. “This tool helps expand our reach outside of the local area”, she added.
