Pittsboro, NC - Daniel Chegash, Jr. of Pittsboro earned his Eagle Scout rank and received his badge at an award presentation held at the UNC School of Government in Chapel Hill on June 15.

An Eagle Scout is a Scout with the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than 1.7 million young men.

Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout.

Daniel was introduced to scouting in 2003 as a Weeblo scout in Pack 93 from Pittsboro, NC. Daniel advanced to the Boy Scouts after earning his Arrow of Light and joined Troop 951, Chapel Hill in 2004. While at Troop 951, Daniel held the positions of Quarter Master and Assistant Patrol Leader. In 2006 Daniel moved to Troop 39 where he held the position of Troop Librarian.

Daniel participated in the trip to Philmont, NM and throughout the trek held the position of Assistant Trek Leader and Chaplain’s Aid. For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Daniel engaged a team of neighbors and friends in a safety and beautification project for the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Care and Share Center. Safety lines were painted and seven large wooden planters were constructed and strategically placed within the front entrance of the center. For beautification, Japanese Dwarf Holly bushes were planted and a lattice fence was built around the bulk item drop off area.

Daniel is a rising senior at Northwood High School where he is active in FFA, the wrestling club and Younglife. He lettered in Varsity Wrestling and was third all conference in his weight class. Daniel also lettered in Track, pole vaulting and placed fourth in conference. Daniel was confirmed in the Catholic Church in 2007 and served as an alter boy.
