Pittsboro, NC - The 5th Annual Pittsboro Relay for Life Event is at Northwood High School this Friday and Saturday. If you’ve been out before, I’m guessing you already have plans to attend as you remember how special and how fun it is. If you have not had an opportunity to Experience Relay, I hope you’ll bring your family out this Friday night beginning at 6 pm (or whenever you can get there).

We have activities planned for every age group! For the youngsters, there will be four different inflatables and other games and fun. For the older youngsters, we have entertainment, music, games, and dancing. Everyone should come HUNGRY as our teams have prepared some wonderful home cooked food: BBQ, sausage dogs, pinto beans and hushpuppies, cheesecake, strawberry short cake, homemade ice cream and the list goes on. There are many opportunities to buy raffle tickets for some AWESOME prizes. See them all at www.pittsbororelayforlife.org/Fundraisers.htm. You can even lock up your friends and family in jail for $1 each.

Parking for the handicapped and survivors will be closest to the football field. Survivors are reminded to have their parking passes hanging from the rear view mirror. Law enforcement will be there to help ease the parking hassles. Please follow their direction and the posted signs. Go to www.pittsbororelayforlife.org/Documents/ParkingPlan.jpg to view the parking areas. Carpooling is encouraged!

Please plan to stay all night. Here’s a quick rundown of the fun.

6 pm Opening ceremonies
7 pm Survivor and Caregiver Laps
8 pm Miss Relay pageant (starring Bob the Biker Babe)
9 pm Luminaria Ceremony (still time to honor or remember a loved one.. stop by the information tent)
10 pm Relay Idol (lots of local talent)
MIDNIGHT – let the games begin – BIG prizes - Look HERE.. www.pittsbororelayforlife.org/Overnight.htm!
7 am Stretch out your tired muscles
8 am Dance with the NIA group to Riverdance (beautiful music)

Don’t worry about going home to sleep – Cancer doesn’t sleep so neither will we!!! The teams will have lots of food and coffee on hand to help you to stay awake. Thinking you’re not the active type – just bring a lawn chair and watch the others! Show your support for our cancer survivors who have many sleepless nights!!

We’re still taking registrations for Relay Idol, “Miss Relay” and the Race to Recovery Boxcar Race! You DO NOT have to be on a Relay Team to participate in these events. If you plan to participate in the Relay Idol or “Miss Relay”, please contact Claire Wilson by Thursday at clairewilson65@aol.com or 919-542-2819. To register for the Race to Recovery Boxcar Race, e-mail your form by Thursday to melanie.foster@datadirect.com or bring it with you Friday night. Forms and info are available at www.pittsbororelayforlife.org!

Remember, all the proceeds of this event go to the American Cancer Society for the fight against cancer!! We’ve already raised $135,000 so far which is AWESOME!!

Plan to have dinner, dessert, midnight snacks and breakfast at Northwood High School. Between all the eating there are lots of campsites to go shop and play! Go to www.pittsbororelayforlife.org/Fundraisers.htm to see what goodies the teams have planned. And go to www.pittsbororelayforlife.org/Documents/FieldLayout2006.jpg for the field layout to plan your Relay Experience.
