Pittsboro, NC - Chatham County authorities called off their search for a missing boater Thursday night on Jordan Lake.

Two men went out onto the lake at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when their boat experienced some trouble, authorities said. The men were trying to bring the boat back in to the Seaforth Beach area when one of them jumped out to swim and disappeared under the water.

The beach is off U.S. 64 in Chatham County.

Several agencies, including the Chatham County Sheriff's Department and park rangers with the Jordan Lake State Recreation area, searched both land and water for a while Thursday before calling off the search for the night. They plan to resume around 8 a.m. Friday.

Rescuers did not release any details about the possible victim's identity.
