North Carolina counties are required to contribute to the cost of Medicaid, adding to the local tax burden. Here's how much Triangle counties expect to spend this year and the estimated effect on the county property tax rate (per $100 of assessed value):

Chatham $2.2 million 4.5 cents 64.6 cents

Wake $17 million 2.4 cents 60.4 cents

Durham $10.4 million 5.2 cents 79 cents

Johnston $5.9 million 6.5 cents 78 cents

Orange $3.6 million 3.6 cents 88 cents
