An Pittsboro man died Saturday night when the car he was driving went out of control and ran off a Chatham County road.
Jerry DeWayne Arrington, 39, of 371 Riverforest Road, Pittsboro, was killed around 6:55 p.m. Saturday night after he lost control of the car he was driving and ran off the road, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. The accident happened on Jones Ferry Road, about 9 miles north of Pittsboro.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound at 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. The victim was ejected from the vehicle.
Arrington was traveling east at "a high rate of speed" when the car ran off the road to the left, veered back to the right, struck a ditch and overturned several times.
Arrington, who was not wearing a seat belt according to the accident report, was thrown from the vehicle. Alcohol appears to not have been a factor in the crash.
