Carnivore Preservation Trust sets date to rescue four tigers[Sep. 3, 2008] Carnivore Preservation Trust (CPT) announced today that they are raising the funds necessary to ship the 4 tigers from the facility in Warrenton, Missouri to CPT on Friday, September 5th, 2008. Wesa-A-Geh-Ya closed following an incident this summer in which a tiger attack cost a 26-year old volunteer part of his leg.
Join the fun at the Woof-A-Palooza dog walk[Sep. 3, 2008] Just put one paw in front of the other and you’re all set to join the fun at the Woof-A-Palooza dog walk benefiting Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.). Pittsboro Mayor, Randy Voller, proclaimed Saturday, September 27 as “Woof-A-Palooza Day”. This furry fun raising event will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on the campus of Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro, NC.
Hogs and dogs part of a Burrito Bash success story[Sep. 2, 2008] Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) in conjunction with The Chatham County Concerned Bikers Association (CC-CBA) held its Fifth Annual Burrito Bash and Auction on Monday, August 11 at the General Store Café in Pittsboro. The evening included an excellent silent auction and an exciting live auction with Benjamin Farrell as auctioneer.

Leo on the mend with C.A.R.E.[Aug. 22, 2008] Chatham Animal Rescue and Education. relies on the community to support its mission. For some animals it is critical that someone cares enough to take that first step by showing compassion and getting involved; Leo is just such an animal. A kind neighbor rescued Leo from a home where he had been abandoned and left in a crate for two days with no food and water.

Congressman Etheridge to present $1,000,000 check to Chatham Habitat for Humanity[Jul. 27, 2008] U.S. Congressman Bob Etheridge will present a ceremonial check for $1,016,000 to Chatham Habitat for Humanity to fund low-interest mortgages for seven of the 15 homes that will make up the Chatham Oak community, an innovative, mixed-income development planned for Pittsboro. The event will be held on Monday, July 28 at 10 a.m. on the site at 210 and 224 East Cornwallis Street.
Jordan Lake is the place for fun in the sun[Jul. 24, 2008] Jordan Lake's 46,768 acres are not only a popular source of recreation. They also provide the water supply for surrounding cities, flood and water quality control, and fish and wildlife conservation.
Most popular Chatham Journal video clips of second quarter 2008[Jul. 23, 2008] One of the stated goals of the Chatham Journal newspaper is to become the premier digital news content provider in Chatham County, NC. We started shooting short video clips in January 2007 and have amassed over 210 Chatham Journal video clips available for viewing at YouTube.

Red Cross has an urgent need for all blood types[Jul. 12, 2008] While temperatures and fuel prices continue to rise this summer, the American Red Cross reports that the blood inventory levels are so low it is unable to sufficiently meet the demand of local hospitals. While there is a constant need for all blood types, donors with type O positive, O negative, A positive and A negative are asked to take an hour to donate right away.
Chatham Council on Aging provides seniors with rides[Jun. 27, 2008] The Council on Aging provides approximately 21,000 rides each year for Chatham's elderly citizens. These include trips from all parts of the county to the two Senior Centers for wellness and nutrition programs, with stops during the week for grocery shopping and to pick up medicines. We also provide individual medical transportation to Chapel Hill, Durham, Sanford and other sites.

Pittsboro youth earns Eagle Scout award[Jun. 23, 2008] Daniel Chegash, Jr. of Pittsboro earned his Eagle Scout rank and received his badge at an award presentation held at the UNC School of Government in Chapel Hill on June 15.
Chatham Links drives traffic to Chathamcentric web sites[Jun. 16, 2008] Over the last year Chatham Links has channeled over 5,700 visitors to over 100 “Chathamcentric” web sites. Chatham resident Gene Galin created “Chatham Links” to be a community guide for Chatham County, NC that provides links to business, non-profit, and personal websites.

Carolina Basketball Museum adds Saturday hours[Jun. 14, 2008] The University of North Carolina Basketball Museum will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning on July 12, 2008. The museum, located on the first floor of the Ernie Williamson Athletics Center adjacent to the Smith Center, has attracted nearly 25,000 visitors since it opened in January.
Chatham Mills to hold Reunion June 14[Jun. 6, 2008] Music, tours, a small exhibit and inexpensive gourmet lunches will be available to the public at a June 14 reunion for former Chatham Mills employees and their families. The reunion will be held from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. at 480 Hillsboro Street.
