[Mar. 13, 2009] All branches of the Chatham County Library system, including the county's Bookmobile, will be closed from Thursday, March 19, through Tuesday, March 24, for the installation of a new automation system. All libraries and the bookmobile will reopen for regular hours beginning Thursday, March 25.
 
Chatham County Senior Games qualify for State Finals
[Mar. 12, 2009] North Carolina Senior Games, Inc. is pleased to announce that Chatham County Senior Games has been sanctioned as an official qualifying site for State Finals 2009. Chatham County Senior Games for people ages 55 and better will be held in Pittsboro and Siler City on April 22- 29, 2009.

[Mar. 9, 2009] According to the Chatham County Council on Aging, residents should beware of a scam reported in Fearrington Village by several residents. 19th Annual Haw River Clean-Up-A-Thon
[Mar. 2, 2009] On Saturday, March 14, volunteers will gather at locations along, riverbanks, creeks, bridges, islands and along the shoreline of Jordan Lake prepared to remove trash that threatens wildlife and water quality. The Haw River Assembly is looking for more volunteers to help clean up at the Bynum sites and the 15-501 Natural Area.
 
Chatham Habitat for Humanity is seeking ten churches to help build a home with a low-income family
[Feb. 26, 2009] Chatham Habitat for Humanity is seeking ten local churches to help build and fund a home in partnership with this low-income family through a FaithWorks project, to be funded in part by the Duke Endowment. Construction on the home is scheduled to begin in mid-April in the new Chatham Oak community, located south of Pittsboro. By Bett Essen
 
Bynum Beach river access plan action items
[Feb. 17, 2009] Chatham County staff, Bynum neighbors and other interested community members held a stakeholder meeting on January 17,2009 to discuss a variety of issues surrounding the continued public uses of this one acre parcel, owned by Chatham County.
 
Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI-USA) appoints executive director
[Feb. 9, 2009] Linda Shaw, consultant and former Senior Community Development Officer with Wachovia Bank, was appointed Executive Director of the Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA, beginning January 5, 2009. She fills the position vacated by retiring ED, Betty Bailey. Ms. Shaw inherits a well-respected, valued and stable organization.
 
Triangle Land Conservancy conserves three more Deep River tracts
[Jan. 9, 2009] Working with the NC Division of Parks and Recreation and tapping funding from three state conservation trust funds, Triangle Land Conservancy recently completed three conservation purchases in the "Forks of the River" area of the Deep River to augment the White Pines Nature Preserve and the Deep River State Trail.
 
Ronald Garcia-Fogarty named the new Executive Director of the Hispanic Liaison
[Oct. 17, 2008] On August 18, 2008, the Board of Directors welcomed Ronald Garcia-Fogarty as Executive Director of The Hispanic Liaison. The Hispanic Liaison is a grassroots community based, nonprofit organization founded in 1995.

Carnivore Preservation Trust sets date to rescue four tigers
[Sep. 3, 2008] Carnivore Preservation Trust (CPT) announced today that they are raising the funds necessary to ship the 4 tigers from the facility in Warrenton, Missouri to CPT on Friday, September 5th, 2008. Wesa-A-Geh-Ya closed following an incident this summer in which a tiger attack cost a 26-year old volunteer part of his leg.
 
Join the fun at the Woof-A-Palooza dog walk
[Sep. 3, 2008] Just put one paw in front of the other and you’re all set to join the fun at the Woof-A-Palooza dog walk benefiting Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.). Pittsboro Mayor, Randy Voller, proclaimed Saturday, September 27 as “Woof-A-Palooza Day”. This furry fun raising event will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on the campus of Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro, NC.
 
Hogs and dogs part of a Burrito Bash success story
[Sep. 2, 2008] Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) in conjunction with The Chatham County Concerned Bikers Association (CC-CBA) held its Fifth Annual Burrito Bash and Auction on Monday, August 11 at the General Store Café in Pittsboro. The evening included an excellent silent auction and an exciting live auction with Benjamin Farrell as auctioneer. By Kathleen Silc

Leo on the mend with C.A.R.E.
[Aug. 22, 2008] Chatham Animal Rescue and Education. relies on the community to support its mission. For some animals it is critical that someone cares enough to take that first step by showing compassion and getting involved; Leo is just such an animal. A kind neighbor rescued Leo from a home where he had been abandoned and left in a crate for two days with no food and water. By Karen Sirls
 
Congressman Etheridge to present $1,000,000 check to Chatham Habitat for Humanity
[Jul. 27, 2008] U.S. Congressman Bob Etheridge will present a ceremonial check for $1,016,000 to Chatham Habitat for Humanity to fund low-interest mortgages for seven of the 15 homes that will make up the Chatham Oak community, an innovative, mixed-income development planned for Pittsboro. The event will be held on Monday, July 28 at 10 a.m. on the site at 210 and 224 East Cornwallis Street.
