A large house in the Governor's Club development near Chapel Hill caught fire Monday morning.

Fire did significant damage to a home at 72007 Wilkinson Road in the Governors Club development in northern Chatham County.

Fire crews from the North Chatham Fire Department were called to the fire around 9:30 a.m., and crews from the Chapel Hill and Carrboro departments also were dispatched. No one was in the house when the fire started, and a passerby apparently noticed smoke and flames and called 911.

Firefighters called in a ladder truck to spray the roof of the house while firefighters worked in the attic.

Eventually crews were able to get through a ground floor door, but by the then much of the damage was done.

Chatham County tax records from February 2004 show that the 4,371 square foot house was valued at $611,938.
