Local firefighters spent last week reviewing fire safety with students at Pittsboro Elementary School during Fire Prevention Week.
Representatives of the Pittsboro Fire Department and the Chatham County Fire Marshal's Office, along with Sparky the Fire Dog, worked with students to learn more about personal, school and family fire safety. The firemen brought a smoke detector to the classrooms and demonstrated the sound it should make.
They encouraged students to know the locations of the smoke detectors in their homes and have their families test them weekly. If families do not have smoke detectors, the firemen explained to the students that they could call the Pittsboro Fire Department and the firemen would come to their homes and install free smoke detectors.
