Pittsboro, NC - Thanks to some special efforts by various groups to reduce guest lists, about 30 seats are available in the courtroom for the Grand Reopening Ceremony of the 1881 Chatham County Courthouse at 1:30 pm on April 20, 2013.

“We had several organizations work very hard to free up a few open seats,” said Debra Henzey in the County Manager’s Office. “We know that there is very strong interest in this event and we are so proud that people worked hard to make a few seats available, even if it is short notice.”

Any residents interested in these seats should sign up at the registration desk between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm on April 20.

“We will then ask a young person to help us draw names from a box at 12:30 pm and we will post the folks who will receive the tickets on a sign near registration at 12:45 pm,” Henzey said. “Folks must check back between 12:45 and 1:15 pm to see if they won and get the admission ticket.”

Henzey said that means folks signing up for the drawing should enjoy touring the new Historical Museum and get a bite to eat at one of the great places downtown, but then come back at 12:45-1:15 pm to see if they got a spot inside.

The county also reminds residents that, after 11 am, parking for those with handicapped stickers will be reserved in front of the Dunlap Building in Pittsboro, which is behind the Hardee’s and BP Station on East Street. “We know that we have quite a few folks arriving after 11 am who will need that parking, so we want to make sure it is available,” Henzey said.
