Chatham County, NC - Chatham County had reports of storm damage, primarily due to hail and high winds, in various parts of the county late Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A few facilities in the Pittsboro, NC area had major damage due to downed trees, including a vacant home and several Sheriff's Office vehicles parked on the back side of the Law Enforcement Center.
At one point, more than 2,000 residences had power outages, but as of 9:15 pm, Progress Energy reported that this had been reduced to less than 125 residences. Most of the remaining outages were in Siler City, but a few homes in Pittsboro also did not have power yet. Crews continue to work on restoring power. Those without power in the morning should contact Progress Energy at 1-800-419-6356.
Chatham County's data systems were impacted initially, affecting the phone system, website and email. However, all of these have been restored as of 10 pm, except the county phone system is not expected to be restored until early morning
