Pittsboro, NC - Residents can enjoy learning about the beautiful trees in the White Pines Natural Area in Chatham County on January 7, 2012, during a Winter Tree Hike sponsored by the Grand Trees of Chatham. The hike is slated from 1 to 3 pm.
Hikers will learn to identify trees by their leaf scars and buds as well as bark, shape, and other characteristics. Please dress warmly and be prepared to walk about 1.5 miles.
Walton Haywood from the Grand Trees of Chatham reports that this has been a very popular event in the past so it is important to sign up as soon as possible. Once registrants have been confirmed by email, they will receive directions to the starting location. Please email grandtreesofchatham@gmail.com to sign up.
The White Pines Natural Area is managed by the Triangle Land Conservancy and is located where the Rocky and Haw Rivers converge.
